In an effort to improve member engagement among Affordable Care Act (ACA) beneficiaries, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) and Healthmine announced they are expanding their partnership to Individual Family Plan ACA members, according to a recent Health Payer Intelligence Article by Hannah Nelson.

Blue KC first partnered with Healthmine in 2016 to utilize its member engagement and rewards technology solutions to motivate the health plan’s Commercial beneficiaries to make healthy decisions and extended these programs to Medicare Advantage members in 2020. These programs include a suite of services that are purpose-built to enable plans to motivate members with customizable rewards to receive important preventative care.

As reported by Nelson, Blue KC’s MA rewards program saw success with gap closure compliance and created a member-centric experience that encouraged healthy behaviors. The Missouri-based plan hopes to utilize digital outreach, smart rewards, and personalized health activities to drive similar results among its ACA beneficiaries. The new program also takes advantage of Healthmine’s NCQA-certified Health Risk Assessment (HRA), which allows the plan to collect individualized health insight data and identify barriers to care.

The launch of this program could not come at a better time, as many health plans have seen drops in member engagement and customer satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Citing a J.D. Power survey, Nelson highlighted how plans saw some of the lowest satisfaction scores in 2020 across all industries, with the main concern being plans’ ability to engage members with relevant and personalized healthcare guidance.

Programs like Blue KC’s new ACA rewards program can provide the exact types of targeted interventions that plans need to build trust with their beneficiaries.
